This desert and delta safari is the perfect combination where wild Kalahari meets the Okavango Delta. This tour is a guided self drive safari. We offer a set departure date and a set starting point for this self-driving safari. Our self-drives are limited to 4 vehicles only, allowing for a more discreet and reduced footprint on our safaris.
Our Safari will start in South Africa and end in Botswana. It combines the Kalahari with the Transfrontier Park and mabuasehube. Then we enter Botswana and explore the western Okavango Delta and the Pan Handle. These regions are vast in contrasting landscapes. Our desert and delta safari will endeavour some Kalahari dune driving and wild camping. Each vehicle is responsible for its own camping equipment, fuel and water supply.
Our team comes with experience and will guide you through your wild desert and delta experience. Two spoor track roads will lead us through the semi-desert towards the faster roads heading to the Okavango Pan Handle.
Our experience in the Kalahari is more road-based and vehicle-based. The Okavango offers us the chance to be more water-based. We will use boats to explore the wilderness and wildlife of the Okavango.
Part of our journey will be to visit the sacred bushman heritage site of the Tsodilo Hills. Our visit to the hills will include a hiking trail that takes us past the ancient rock art galleries of the Khoi San. A perfect way to explore on foot and have an active day outside of the vehicles or boats. The variety and well-kept rock paintings will explain a great deal of the old Khoi san culture.
The Okavango River is the largest river that meets Botswana and offers a yearly lifeline to the Country. Every year the flood of the Okavango brings life to the semi-desert of Botswana. The lush vegetation and riverine forests along the Okavango are home to various birdlife and wildlife. We intend to explore the lush, beautiful waterways of Okavango. Part of our visit was to go by boat through the panhandle. Fish Eagles are a common resident and are known as the call of Africa.
Our safari will end after breakfast on Day 14. From here, you are welcome to explore.
