14 Day Kalahari Crossing Safari

14 Day Kalahari Crossing Safari

This Kalahari Crossing Safari is a guided and guided self-drive safari. You can either join us in our safari vehicles or follow in your car.  It is a combination of Kgalagadi, Mabuasehube and Central Kalahari. The route is partly a 4 x 4 trail, and we will require a minimum of 2 vehicles on this safari. We will experience the vast open land with its endless horizons. The Kalahari is a unique semi-desert biosphere. Kalahari meaning “the land of the thirst”.

Our safari will meet just before the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park at the Kgalagadi Lodge one day before departure date. The Lodge is the perfect venue, and you can decide to camp or make use of the accommodation available. We will have an introduction of our team and discuss the adventure safari that awaits us for the next day in the Kalahari. We will make use of this opportunity to ensure that we have all the equipment and communications needed to complete our safari.

The ten-day Kalahari crossing safari will take us from Kgalagadi Transfrontier over the dune belt towards Mabuasehube. The road is a two spoor sandy 4 x 4 track, and we will depart in convoy. It is not uncommon to find predators and a large number of antelopes like the eland on this dune road. The scenery is real to the Kalahari, and the camel thorn trees provide a well-deserved shelter into many animals and birds. Crossing the dunes will give us a great insight to the challenges of survival in the Kalahari.

Mabuasehube has large pans that fill with water during the rainy season. The vegetation changes and more  Kalahari apple leave trees are visible in this region.

We will fuel our vehicles, and depart after breakfast the following morning. We check and sync our radios before departure. The daily route briefing will take place before we leave on our ten days Kalahari crossing safari guided self-drive. Those travellers that don’t have four-wheel drive vehicle can join us on our vehicles.
